Call for Participants– Conference Berlin

Dear friends and colleagues,

we invite young representatives from NGOs, foundations and associations to apply for participation at the conference “Looking for European Citizenship”, taking place from 17 – 20 November 2010 in Berlin, Germany.

The conference will be the kick-off to get together stakeholders from civil society, social science and politics to debate about the current status of EU-citizenship, to find practical solutions to its discriminating effects, to identify new models of citizenship suitable for the transnational nature of the EU and to develop strategies of how to effectively transfer this model onto the political agenda.

Please send in a brief description (1 page max.) of your project, good practice or viewpoint concerning EU citizenship by 15 August. If selected for the conference, you will receive an official invitation by end of August. Please see here for additional information on the conference and contact details.

Call for Journalistic Articles

Dear friends and colleagues,

Citizens For Europe e.V. invites journalists working on European Union issues to submit short articles, columns, background stories and reportage for the inaugural issue of its journal, “Open Citizenship”. The first issue will deal with European citizenship: what citizenship means in the EU and how Union integration has brought new opportunities and challenges. Potential topics for articles include discrimination, new modes of freedom, bureaucratic problems and feelings of belonging or disintegration from the community that EU expatriates face in their everyday life. Perspectives from different generations and Member States are encouraged.

Articles should be no more than 1,000 words and submitted as Microsoft Word documents by August 15, 2010. You may e-mail us with questions: pettibone [at] citizensforeurope.org.

Feel free to share this information with other interested parties.

Dear friends and colleagues,

We invite academics and researchers to send in their scientific articles for the upcoming first edition of Open Citizenship – The Journal, to be published in November 2010. The authors of the best articles will also be invited to the conference “looking for European citizenship” taking place in Berlin from November 17th to 20th.
